Increase MLSS in Effluent

A wastewater treatment plant works well only after a sufficient level of microbial growth has occurred in the system. The amount of microbes required depends on the amount and type of organic compounds to be degraded. This level varies from effluent to effluent. But unless one attains the required Food to Microbe (F/M) ratio, the plant will not work to its full potential. The bacterial count in the system can go down due to several reasons. It can get affected due to a toxic load, or a shift in pH. Or perhaps it is a new plant that is yet to be commissioned.

Often generic microbes fail to grow if the organic compounds are too foreign to them. Even if they do grow, the growth is so slow that the plant seems to be taking forever to be commissioned or to come back on its track.
